Shining a Light on the Silent Epidemic:

Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders (PMADs), Lack of Disclosure and Racial Disparity

When working with pregnant folks and parents it is vital that we have a clear understanding about Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders (PMADs). Which is why we have collaborated with Lacey Fisher + Lexi Losch for this one of a kind workshop to talk about the silent epidemic that is impacting parents now more than ever.

Statistics show that the number of people with PMADs is increasing.

Approximately 1 in 3 parents meet the criteria for a PMADs diagnosis, and that is based on those that disclose, the actual number could be even higher.

We have created this workshop to give you the tools, information, and resources to be able to support your clients with PMADs, and gain a deeper understanding of the complexity of Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders (PMADs).

Some of the questions we will be covering are:
  1. How can we support clients we suspect may have a Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders (PMADs)?
  2. What are the available treatment options for PMADs?

  3. Why are some communities experiencing higher rates of PMADs than ever before?

  4. Why are some parents choosing to suffer in silence rather than disclose how they are feeling?

  5. How can we do our best to be culturally sensitive while supporting clients with PMADs?

We can’t wait for you to join us and help get parents the support that they desperately need.

Collaborators

Lacey Castilleja Fisher is a Licensed Professional Counselor-Supervisor, Registered Play Therapist-Supervisor and a Certified Mental Health Professional with a mental health private practice in southwest Austin. Lacey has worked in a variety of settings including in a Children’s Advocacy Center to provide counseling to children that experienced sexual abuse and their families, and she decided to take the experience she had there and apply it to private practice. She built her practice around supporting children and adults that had experienced sexual abuse/assault and found a passion working with parents and parents to be when their sexual trauma was activated in the perinatal period. This led to Lacey learning as much as she could about perinatal trauma, pregnancy and infant loss, NICU trauma and fertility struggles. Lacey finds that the parents she works with respond well to EMDR and sandtray therapy and is excited to start implementing trauma conscious yoga to her counseling practice. Lacey has served as the Clinical Director for the Pregnancy and Postpartum Health Alliance since 2018.
