Addiction is both very common in terms of its occurrences and still highly stigmatized socioculturally. Because of addiction's prevalence, the lives of most people and families have been touched and impacted by addiction to varying degrees. Addiction can be tremendously destructive and divisive within the context of a family or community particularly when the person struggling with addiction is not provided with adequate care and support.

This workshop is designed to assist you in being able to recognize if addiction is an issue within the families that you’re serving, to approach the situation with compassion and to prioritize family-centred care. This workshop will be taught with a feminist, anti-racist, trauma-informed lens that recognizes that addiction is complex and that there are just as many entry points to recovery and healing as there are entry points to addiction itself. 

This workshop will discuss abstinence-based and harm reduction approaches which prioritize the care of the entire family.
