Beyond the Basics of Accommodation:

With folks living with disabilities having children at the same rate as those without, why are we not including everyone in the conversation? This workshop will celebrate all folks in their fertility, pregnancy and parenting journeys. Let’s talk about how we can ensure that our clients can stop having to be advocates and experts all the time which robs them of the participation of receiving affirming and safe care. There is a constant vigilance needed when we exist in this ableist society. 

There are key terms to cover when we talk about chronic illness versus disabilities, so we will break this down. Disabled folks are the world's largest minority group (15% of the world adult population)! Yet there is a tension or downright disregard for creating accessibility, there is less adequate care and a blatant stigma around disability and the reproductive journey. 

Birthworkers who are confident in disability care and justice are so critical at this time. We are leaving the celebration of disabled folks out of too many spaces and conversations. Get informed and be part of the disability justice movement!
